Guido Porro explains his vineyards and cellar in Barolo.
Azienda Agricola Guido Porro is located in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Barolo area, and consists out of 8 hectares of vineyards. The different vineyards are: “Lazairasco”, “Santa Caterina” and “‘l Pari” – in the “cru Lazzarito”.
At the moment, the fourth generation of winemakers is managing the family estate, producing wines from the local Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera grapes. Over the years, the business has grown, but the traditional style of wine making has been passed on from father to son. For their Barolos that means: long fermentation, skin contact from min 15 days to up to a month and 36 months of maceration in big barrels (not in barrique!). To make their Barolos enjoyable to drink even when they are still young (which is a-typical for a Barolo wine), they partially take out the grape seeds before fermentation, helping them to get rid of the green tannins.
